What is Hawkesbury Community Outreach Services ?
linkFormed in 1980, and based at Kurrajong Community Centre, McMahons Rd, Kurrajong in the Hawkesbury, North West of Sydney.
HCOS works with groups of participants who live in the same place or area, or with participants who share a common identity within the Hawkesbury to provide a diverse range of community services and programs with a particular focus on disadvantaged members.
These services range from Information and Referral services, photo copying and fax services, Community Development, Child, Youth & Family Service, Mobile Pre-School, Playgroup, Before & After School Care, Vacation Care, Mobile Minders Service, Seniors and varying skills and health programs.
HCOS is a not for profit organisation administrated by a voluntary Management Committee.
Our Annual General Meetings take place in October each year and we encourage local community members to join our HCOS Committee.
As an incorporated organisation HCOS has a Constitution by which it must abide.

We have Mobile Preschool services based at Bilpin and Blaxland Ridge. OOSH, Vacation Care, Aboriginal Outreach and Community Development Services are based at our Kurrajong Centre. Our Child, Youth and Family Support services are provided across the Hawkesbury including isolated areas with our Streetlight Youth mobile project out on the streets on the Friday nights. Mobile Minders Childcare service is also available across the Hawkesbury.
A number of our services work in collaboration with other services in the area.

Our mission is to provide a quality service delivering programs and services directed toward strengthening the community, increasing community connectedness, well being, safety and knowledge.
Aims
To act as a hub for local community activities, services and programs, to ensure that the service is operated on a community basis
To encourage community participation.
To identify community needs and where possible and appropriate, initiate, develop and operate programs to meet those needs and as a resource to members of the community.
To raise awareness of issues identified by our community and advocate on their behalf where relevant
To network with other services or agencies, working toward positive outcomes for the community
To maintain relative services and sustainable funding
Funding
As HCOS is a not for profit organisation and a registered charity. HCOS funded by various State and Federal Departments.The Vacation Care service has partial funding which allows a small subsidy to parents on fees. The funding bodies are as follows: NSW Government Education & Communities – Early Childhood Education and Care Grants Program.Community Builders and Child, Youth and Family services are entirely funded by:NSW Family & Community Services Community Services, there are no fees collected by these services
Kurrajong Before and After School service receives a small subsidy from DET toward providing extra activities during school vacation but the majority of income is derived from fees paid by parents.

- Kurrajong Before and After School Care at Kurrajong Community Centre, and Vacation Care during school holidays.
- Early Childhood Services including Mobile Preschool services at Bilpin and Blaxland Ridge Community Centres.
- Mobile Minders childcare service for organisations which provide parent education groups in the community.
- Family Support Service that offers support services to families in the community and parenting skills programs.
- Youth Welfare Services providing educational and early intervention programs for youth to schools and other organisations. Our mobile youth bus works with isolated young people across the Hawkesbury communities with out of hours support services to youth.
- DRUMBEAT 'Building Resilience through Rhythm', this program promotes social understanding and connection through a team drumming experience.
- Community Development projects including a weekly shopping trip for isolated communities, a monthly senior's coffee morning group excursion, weekly Tai Chi classes, supporting and contributing to community events.
